Content Development & Marketing Strategy
As online product manager for Cavendish Global and several other organizations & companies, I manage online product development, website development & content, marketing strategy & organic SEO.
Over the past five years I’ve been working with media projects, small businesses & independent professionals, helping them build their presence on the web and engage with their audiences through social media, including Facebook, LinkedIn, Google maps & local business listings, Yelp, Twitter, Pinterest, etc.
Website Design & Development
I’ve worked on several multilingual media projects, and can also integrate different media formats such as images, audio files, video clips, ebooks or PDF files. Basic scripting / markup languages and production skillsets include:
- WordPress, Squarespace, and other hosting platforms
- responsive templates
- custom CSS
- Photoshop and other production software
I can do basic design and programming, and manage or collaborate with graphic designers and programmers on more complex projects as needed. I can also liaise on behalf of my clients with 3rd party vendors, such as:
- web and email hosting companies
- mobile app developers
- e-commerce platforms
- other software-as-service (SaS) providers
On such projects, I help to define requirements, manage projects and budgets, and ensure that what these providers deliver will actually do the job.
Search Engine Optimization (SEO)
An integral component of any content & marketing strategy is SEO (Search Engine Optimization) including optimizing for local search where applicable.
I follow a set of best practices often referred to as organic SEO — making sure that web visitors & search engines alike can find you and see what you’re all about.
There’s a great deal of misinformation about SEO out there, and many disreputable providers; most of what I know & do in this regard can be found in Google’s 30 page guidebook on the subject, which I’d highly recommend.
In any case, make sure that any consultant you hire actually adheres to SEO & online marketing best practices (e.g. opt-in) and always beware of cold-calls from companies that claim to have analyzed your web traffic, or promise to get you to the top of google search results. These companies sometimes use techniques that can actually harm your search ranking over the long term.
I have a Bachelors degree in English and French from the State University of New York at Albany, and a Masters from New York University in Interactive Telecommunications. I’ve written for online and print publications, taught K-12 and professional development courses for in-service teachers, and recruited for high-tech firms in the San Francisco Bay area. I’m fluent in French and once worked as a translator and technical writer for the OECD in Paris.
